Clutter Control

The other day I was hit with one of my first bouts of "having-a-baby-must-clean-everything" - this was an overwhelming urge to clean that I have never experienced before. I can usually think of something else I'd rather do than clean the house, but not this time. I took it out on the office first. My desk was so horribly cluttered - seriously, it was embarrassing. So much junk EVERYWHERE.

I did what I could, but discovered that I have a lot of little wirey things and such that really don't have a place - ipod cables, flash card readers, memory cards, etc...so I consulted my favorite book of the moment to see what I could do about it.

The result is this desktop organizer:

I modified Amy's size so it would fit underneath my monitor stand. The modification was pretty easy with some graph paper and a calculator. Email me if you want more info on that.

Overall it was a project, but not extremely time consuming and not completely un-doable for a novice like me. Of course the lining did not sit neatly inside and was too big. I guess a perfect lining takes practice because I have so far been unsuccessful at having everything match up just perfectly.

I have two more in the works - letter sized trays that will serve as "inboxes" for Forest and me. Four weeks left to get life in order before it changes for-ever...hows that for pressure.

The wood floors have puppy paw prints all over them! And I don't have the proper cleaning tools! Haha..I will show them soon. More photos of me? Really?

I agree with Alishia

and boy are these trays cute...
isn't it amazing the pressure a baby can bring, everything must be perfect before there arrival, and then after they arrive you immediately have just as long to do list.. Lord show us mercy!

Delurking to say that it sounds like nesting. I turned into Super Woman in the days before having each of my children.

How are you feeling? It can be so easy to succumb to angst when you're in the final weeks, but you're looking fantastic and should know it.

What a great looking desk tray. Bravo!
I know what you mean about the pressure of the final days. I just said to Scott last night, uh... 5 weeks.... we'd better make sure we are ready!

Awesome! I have this book (and LOVE it) I will have to try these. I was afraid that they looked too hard but I think I should give it a shot. Yours is so pretty! My desk could use some beautification!

Love it - I think I might be off to the bookstore now to check it out.

I remember the pre-baby nesting push ... the precise reason all of my panty shelves are very specifically labeled (quite lovely, if I do say so myself) and organized. And two years later, it's still helpful!

Glad I'm not alone in my urge to organize the nest. I'm due with my first baby in early May, and I'll think to myself, "I want to WANT to sit down and read my book, but I REALLY want to tackle that one shelf in the linen closet that isn't quite as tidy as it should be..." Without a doubt, the hormones talking!

Good luck!
