Blarg!

Some very mean bad person tried to steal my domain and my blog has been down for days! Forest worked for hours today to take it back and everything seems to be fine now.

Boo Internet bullies.

**If you want to know more, Forest wrote a brief explanation in the comments that may or may not make sense. It's complicated and probably won't happen again, but if you're curious...**

Not to dwell on unpleasantries, but can you say more about this as a lesson for the rest of us? Thanks!

In brief...

You can register with Google to have Gmail, Calendar, etc. for your very own domain. (http://www.google.com/a/help/intl/en/index.html) This is a great service, but since Raya does not need email at paperpony.net we did not register the domain with Google Apps. This is typically fine, but Raya does use Blogger's custom domain hosting for paperpony.net, and since Blogger is owned by Google some of the settings that are used for hosting paperpony.net got fowled up when someone register paperpony.net for Google Apps. It took a bit of research, but I figured out how to get all the settings straitened out.

The lesson here is if you use Blogger custom hosting or think you might want to in the future, then register your domain for Google Apps even if you don't use it.

...or not so brief.
