Saturday with Diana+

Engagement session with Steveyann & Nathan

Wilder Ranch:

Downtown San Jose:

Some of these are enhanced with textures by Jesh De Rox. I've had these for awhile, but haven't played with them much - these photos feel nostalgic to me and even more so with some grit and wear added in.  This was such a great shoot overall and I will share more photos soon.

City Bound

Today my mom, B and I are headed to the city (that means San Francisco around these parts).

View from the cable car when we were there for Shelly's birthday in '04.
Apparently I don't take many photos when I go there as this was the best I had.

On the agenda:

- lunch with one of my bestest friends
- engagement shoot with Robert & Carolyn
- visiting Timeless Treasures, hopefully to find a "B" for...B's room and just to check it out. I first read about this store on sfgirlbybay and it looks like a place my mom and I would love.

I just love the city. I try to go whenever I come home for a visit. Have a lovely Friday and I'll post photos from the trip next week. I'm taking my Diana+ camera, yay!

Jaclyn + Todd's Engagement

I met Jaclyn and Todd a few weeks ago at the beautiful Hotel Bel Air for their engagement shoot. They got engaged there so it was a special location, and even with the twenty security guards walking around we didn't get kicked out, yay! I was fully prepared, but was glad we were able to shoot there as it is SO gorgeous. There are pretty little walk ways, bridges, and lots and lots of green.

Here are some of my favorites:

Thanks Jaclyn and Todd! You were awesome with your duffle bag of clothes and outfit-changing skills. Total professionals. See you in September!

Bad Blogger!

This week I am at my parents house and have been holed up in my make-shift office in my sister's room (thanks S) trying to get some editing done before my next round of shoots starts tomorrow.

I just have to pretend this is cuteoverload.com for one sec and show you this photo from the shoot I did on Father's Day.

Their little 3-month old black lab. Puh-recious.

It's gonna be all about photos on the blog for awhile since that's pretty much what I'm doing right now. It is Summer after all, the busiest time for photographers here in Californa. It's funny because my friends at Largo Photography in Phoenix just finished their last wedding of the year. Probably because nobody in their right mind gets married when it's 114 degrees outside. Except for that one time we went to a wedding in Phoenix in July. Of course the wedding was indoors, but still...Forest has not been back since.

Happy Father's Day!

My love and my bug.

It is the most fun to watch Fo interact with his son. He is so good with him and is the only one who can make B laugh (so far...I've tried many times). Yesterday I had a shoot with another dad and his kids so they got to spend some father-son time while I was gone. When I came home B was just waking up from a nap on daddy's chest. I think napping is their thing.

And to my daddy,

Now that I have a child of my own I'm going to be coming to you A LOT for advice. Because whatever you and mom did with us, you did it right. I know it wasn't always easy, but I also know that the four of us are incredibly grateful to have parents like you and mom. As we all get older I think we realize more and more how truly blessed we are. I love your stories, I love laughing with you over life's ironies, I love that I'm going to be seeing you every day for two weeks! And B is excited to see his granddaddy too. You know everyone says he looks like you? Must be the hair...

Valerie and Gabe's Wedding

Valerie and Gabe's wedding was absolutely beautiful and I'm so thrilled to share some more photos from this lovely day. The whole day was very thoughtful, from the generational wedding photos at the reception table (a favorite detail I had not seen before) to the groom's toast later that evening. Gabe had everyone smiling and laughing - he himself is ALWAYS smiling. I would say "Ok, be serious in this one" but his face just radiates happiness no matter what. It was cute.

Here are some of my favorites from the day - I wish my photos were bigger on this blog, but you can click on any image to see it larger.

The Happy Couple

Thank you Valerie and Gabe! I was honored to be at your wedding and found myself smiling throughout the day just watching you two and your families. You are one happy group and I loved capturing that which was so present. Hope these photos make you smile too : )

An old boss of mine asked me to do some food shots for the restaurant chain he currently manages. I tried to tell him that it's really not my thing, but he pressed on and so I agreed. These were a collaboration with Levi, brother of faithsalutes and soon-to-be Brooks student - I styled and directed, he was the shooter. He really likes tabletop and I knew he would enjoy this since he's just getting into commercial photography.

It was a fun two hours and I really like what we got. We shot in a covered patio, with huge open windows behind us and used small white reflector cards in the front to add light. Food can be fun afterall!

Art for Baby

I have been looking for some affordable, cool art for B's room. I don't have a lot of wall space and already have the vintage records, but I just wanted maybe one more piece. Something not too childish, but age appropriate and fitting with the decor. I turned to Etsy and this is what I found:

(edit: Okay, maybe these aren't age appropriate for a little boy. Them being guns and all. But I'm still a new mom and my sensitivities aren't quite there yet. Better than those rock posters I wanted to put up!)

The awesome prints of vintage tin-toy-gun-packaging are by artist John Golden. Perhaps in light of the recent comments on this post we will put these up in the office, not the baby's room. I forget sometimes you have to be careful what you post on your blog. If there's anyone who disagrees with you, they will let you know here (and often anonymously). Anyway, didn't mean to offend. I also bought this Sugarloop print I forgot to post:

Below are a few more Etsy artists whose work could adorn your nursery walls beautifully:

June 3, 2008

Hello. I'm sick again (for the third time this month) so I have been about resting and getting as much work done as I can from the couch and not so much about blogging. This is getting kind of ridiculous, but maybe it has to do with the fact that I have not slept for longer than three hours at a time in four months...just a hunch. That might be all about to change though, because last night B slept for 6 hours straight! Hallelujah. Of course I woke up at 3:30am to check on him so I did not sleep for 6 hours, but just the idea that I could have is enough for me. I'm not getting too excited (he's teased us like this before), but there is hope.

Here are a couple projects I'm hoping to start soon:

Curtains for B's room. I found these Nautica brand sheets at Ross, with help from Faith (who was here on Sunday and we had the best day just doing nothing...it's what we do best). The fabric reminds me of the texture of barkcloth and has a retro feel. I think it will go very nicely with the decor and if there is enough I may even attempt a crib skirt.

And I can't wait to make this bag for me. I think it would make a wonderful beach bag and an ideal carry-all for Summer. I have a fun idea for the fabric too. Did you hear Amy is coming out with a book of 20 baby sewing projects? I will post a few photos soon - I am SO excited. I think I'm due for an Amy Butler post soon as she has a couple other things coming out this Summer that I'm really looking forward to.

I also finished my living room pillows, which I need to shoot. I love the new colors! It's amazing what pillows can do for a room.

June is going to be a busy month. Here's what I have on the calendar:
- engagement session with J & T in Beverly Hills
- engagement session with S & N in Santa Cruz
- engagement session with R & C in San Francisco
- family session in Santa Barbara
- family session in Bay Area
- photo shoot with decorator for her new website
- spending two weeks in Santa Cruz for photo shoots and family time

I don't know how I'm going to pull all this off. I have mixed emotions about being this busy, but July is looking pretty empty and I plan on keeping it that way. Thankful for photo shoots and also thankful for some time off!
