Decorating our bedroom: help needed!

Last weekend we finally moved our gigantor sleigh bed out of our room & moved in our new dresser. It feels so much bigger & I'm so excited with how it's shaping up.

I think we're going to just get a headboard & keep our bed low to the ground, but I'm not sure what style will go best with the 60's low dresser we have. Any advice? Should I go really modern & simple, or will that not look right? Maybe something more baroque & decorative to contrast the dresser? I saw a headboard at a vintage shop here in town that I could picture looking nice painted one solid color, but I'm just not sure. Here's a visual:

Here are our colors. We're painting the walls a light gray & using the Eames chair as inspiration for accents. This Kite Tail color is pretty much EXACTLY what color the chair is in real life. And I just always love the marigold/gray combo. All these colors are from the Martha Stewart line at Lowe's. I don't know what kind of paint we'll end up using for the walls (would like to use Mythic) but this is just for the planning stage.

I am having issues making decisions. Help me!

I'm not much of an interior designer but I'd go with modern and simple for the headboard and then add more interest & deatils with the accessories. The kite tail color is really beautiful, it will complement the other colors nicely. Are you going to show photos when it's done?

i think that the modern idea strikes me as cool. i feel like it will tie the three pieces together well. an ornate headboard might get conflicting. though i'm not an interior anything !

I like headboard number 2 with the other elements you have chosen.
It is going to be great!

I would go with modern and simple headboard. It will be an better canvas to layer on textures, patterns, accessories and details to really bring out your own personality and charisma. And in terms of color...love the kite tail!

Headboard number 2. Its lovely, not too 'matchy matchy', and compliments the other features well. And will look FAB against teh Kite Tail!

Love the Kite Tail blue, but I am leaning towards the ornate headboard for you. The moulding can be white with the actual headboard either white, or paler versions of either your chair or your wall. Add some subdued blue prints, and some gold and white accent pillows in bold stripes, with maybe a baroque print cushion in black and white on the chair. Your bedding could be a beautiful pearl gray with some pale blue and white thrown in (not as prints). You'll get an overall look that's casual but sophisticated.

Good luck with whatever you choose!

I think Headboard number 3 would look awesome if it were painted the KIte Tail color - unexpected twist on a traditional design. But I also like the idea of Kite Tail walls peeking through number 2.

I'm with the majority on the modern head board style but in the minority with my vote for the olive oil/marigold colour for it.
The kite tail is very nice but perhaps a little matchy matchy?

I love the third frame and love the idea of all that curvy contrasting with your other modern lines . . . looking forward to seeing photos of whatever you choose though!

Thanks everyone for your helpful comments! It's so nice to have a place to bounce ideas off other like-minded people. I still don't know what to do, but will probably go with a more modern headboard. And I'm thinking gray for the walls & use the other colors as accents. Thanks & can't wait to show photos when it's done!

I'm a little late but I loke a simple upholstered headboard in a white linen slipcover (are you surprised?) i love the grey and marigold, the chair will pop off of those. Can't wait to see the results!

Koh colleen you know I have been hoping you would comment! A slipcovered headboard..hm, I just so happen to know someone who could help me with that. Thanks! That's an option I had not thought of.

i also had in mind the first headboard, or something like it, covered in a fabric with a good texture. although i think white would be plain and i would go with the marigold color. it's warm. and would look good in some kind of nubby or tweedy fabric. fablious.

Loving your new dresser and the chair next to it! Great color choices too - you have a great eye. I would go with the modern headboard (#2 is my fav).

Looking forward to seeing you guys this weekend! :)
