Vote for Emily and Brian!

Well, hullo. I have not blogged in a week - whats up with that? Babies, that's what's up. We are visiting my parents for the weekend and I brought my flash card which is full of good stuff intended for this blog. So if I find some time tomorrow I am going to try and catch up. Catch up - that's my mantra right now.

But real quick I wanted to post about an email I just received from one of my 2007 brides, Emily. She and Brian entered a handful of their photos in theknot.com's Real Weddings Contest and we need your votes! I had such a blast with them on their wedding day, am SO happy they liked their photos enough to enter them in a contest, and would love to see them win.

If you have a second follow this link and give their photos a big fat 5 hearts. If you don't have a knot log-in you have to create one, but it literally takes 30 seconds (I did it too). So will you vote? Pretty pretty please?

Their website is also in the contest. They were #1 yesterday!

View my Real Wedding Awards Nominee!

Good luck you two! If you ask me you definitely had one of the best weddings of 2007 : ) xo

polyvore.com: GO

Well, it's a good thing it's 4:10pm because if you are someone with a 9-5 you only have 50 minutes left in your day to waste on this site. If it were 10am I think you'd be in trouble.

My lil' sis Corrie introduced polyvore.com to me about 45 minutes ago and it is AMAZING. I may be late in the game on this one, I don't know, but it's like the flickr of fashion. You can look at thousands of items from online stores, even import anything you want and make up outfits and collages to your heart's content.

We are collage making girls (my sister has binders full) and this is like having all our fashion magazines at our finger tips without the scissors and glue! Next time I'm stumped for what to wear you know I will be heading here. The coolest thing is that you can make up an outfit, then buy the whole thing right afterward! My clothing budget never saw this coming. polyvore.com - go!

I Have a New Crush

And it's not on a celebrity or even a human being...it's this mini cupcake from Crushcakes, a brand new cupcakery in Santa Barbara.

Our dear friends Lindsay & Katie brought us dinner last night and included a box of these sweet little desserts. Some of you may know that I wasn't eating sugar during my pregnancy because I had gestational diabetes, so now that I'm done with that people have been spoiling me with treats. Yum yum yum - no complaints here. The two I tried were scrumptious and I will most likely devour this one after lunch today.

You Make My Day

Awhile back, the lovely girls of perfectbound named me one of their five blogs that "make their day". They are one of my must-reads and I always enjoy the little vignettes they put together and photograph for their posts. I think this was right around when I had the baby and I have to say it made MY day to know that I made theirs : )

I am following their prompt and wanted to share five blogs that daily make my day. I have - Oh, about 70 or so blogs in my Google Reader feed so these five are just a few of the many that I look forward to daily.

1. shimandsons
I love Sally's minimalism. Her images always make me feel peaceful- a wonderful place to declutter. And I wish I could wear dresses like she does! Don't have the body type, but every time she posts a photo of a new dress she looks so classy. And her little boys - inspiring me to let B's hair grow a little long and give him lots of hats. Plus she uses gray often in her products and home - my favorite color...or non-color.

2. faithsalutes
the now-on-hiatus blog of my bff is always an entertaining read. You would think that since we talk every day I wouldn't need to read her stories, but I have learned so much from her posts about her childhood, etc...and if they don't make me laugh they make me feel something. Read through the archives sometime and leave a comment! Maybe she will come back to us...

3. Making It LovelyHome projects galore! Nicole is so inspiring - she posts updates on their home and has created such a beautiful place to live.

4. sugar city journal
Two sister-in-laws who tag team this blog and make the most beautiful BEAUTIFUL clothes for their daughters. See this coat. I remember the outfits my mom made for me and I don't there is much else that is so special to a little girl.

5. pinkshirtsandcarwrecks
Libby is an artist and showcases her work as well as work by other designers. Always something good over there. Most recently she posted about some wonderful chair prints by artist Maria Jonosko.

Blog reading has never been so vital to my day as it is now. While I'm feeding the boy for hours a day and can't do much decorating, photographing or designing in my own life I can live vicariously through others and bookmark inspiration for future projects. Thanks to all you bloggers who make my day : )

New Fabrics from Amy Butler

Nan over at Amy Butler Design sent me a preview of Amy's new fabrics and since I've been loving Amy's designs so much lately I thought I'd post them here for all of you.

In Amy's words: My collection is inspired by the vintage modern spirit of my lifestyle book, Midwest Modern, which just released this fall. With luscious palettes called Ohio Sky and Pink and Orange Dahlias, the colors for this group come from beautiful summer days in my Ohio garden. The mix of organic prints are perfect for fashion, quilting and home dec projects, everything you need to create your own Midwest Modern style!

See the entire collection at amybutlerdesign.com!

See Jane Work

I'm sure quite a few of you have heard of seejanework.com - the office supply loving girl's fantasy land. But did you know they have a retail store in Thousand Oaks? I've been wanting to check it out so today I drove down there to do some Christmas shopping (it's only about 20 min. South of where I live and 45 min. north of LA)

I can't show you what I bought because that would spoil some surprises, but wow...I spent about an hour in a store that probably isn't larger than 400 square feet. Just looking and looking and wanting and looking.

I get excited in Office Max so this was like total sensory overload. Everything is candy colored and flowery and I just know that working would be twice as fun if my desk was covered in products from this store, I just know it. Regular old manila file folders are just not cutting it anymore now that I've seen the possibilities.

If you find yourself driving through Thousand Oaks I highly recommend stopping by - it's so much more fun to see their wares in person and pretty much any girl you know would love something from this store. And pick something up for yourself while you're at it. It will make you more productive, I promise.

Tori Higa

I've been so excited to share these beautiful invitations Tori did for us. I met Tori through Flickr when she happened upon my photos of Abbot Kinney in LA and through that I discovered her wonderful line of stationery.

Definitely check out her site - torihiga.com. My current favorites are her Vintage Map Travel cards and of course this...

We are having a co-ed shower with our friends here in town and thought it would be fun to include both of us on the invitation. Tori's drawings are so modern, simple and fun - and doesn't it look like us?

Anyway, this was such a delight to receive in the mail and a fun way to start off the celebration of this little baby about to be.

We are about to leave for Thanksgiving - we have about a 6 hour drive to join Forest's family up at the cabin so I need to get off the computer and get packing, but just wanted to share these with you before I left. Happy Thanksgiving to all and be back next week : )

Saffron & Genevieve

One of my ritual stops when I'm at home is this lovely store, Saffron & Genevieve. My mom works with the owner Colleen and from the first time I stepped through the doors I was entranced. What I love most about this store is that it is constantly changing as she brings in new items from her travels (and it's name - Genevieve is a family name for both Colleen and me. It's Forest's grandmother's name and will be our little girl's name if we have one).

Most of her objects are unique finds, but she also carries some great lines like Jonathan Adler ceramics, an assortment of beauty products, candles, cards, etc...

And now she has a whole new area of the store for me to love - her baby corner. Artist Cayce Ellison shows her original art work plus baby clothes and these precious knit mobiles.

I took SO many photos and could have taken twice as many so be sure to check them all out on Flickr here - these few are just a teaser. If you are ever in Santa Cruz be sure to stop by. You may find a treasure and you will definitely find some inspiration.

Colleen also has a blog where she posts shop updates, recent finds, shop events and more:

Phoenix

I'm out in Phoenix for the week visiting faithsalutes. We haven't seen each other since May and a visit was long overdue. Faith has done so much to her home since the last time I was here (she had just moved and we spent a lot of our time unpacking & organizing in a house with no AC). The AC is now working great and the house is coming along. We have very very different tastes and decorating styles, but I like that about us.

This morning I snuck around and took a few photos. Faith has always been good at creating little vignettes with objects. I struggle with this part of decor most of all, but she always inspires me. Here are two favorites:

Flickr Friday

If you're in need of a pick-me-up this Friday afternoon, check out these recent Flickr faves:

Flickr Friday 7.20.07
(click on the image to see who these belong to)

I have big plans to begin sewing my clutch this evening (just another exciting Friday night at our house) and tomorrow is a work day at the house - cleaning, painting, etc...

Side note: Did you know MOO now has little sticker books made from your photos? Again, so fabulously cute, but what would I do with them? I don't think it matters...I'll buy some now and figure it out later.

A lovely weekend to everyone : )

More Fun with Flickr

bighugelabs.com is always fun to play on - here's a new flickr toy I just found that creates a palette of colors from a photo you choose.

These are web colors, so it could be especially useful when creating your blog or website - especially if you have a photo banner and want to coordinate your background, font colors, etc..I end up doing this every time I change my header and have to go into Photoshop to manually select colors with the eyedropper.

I had some fun playing with this for our house last night too - using images of pillows and things to see what it came up with. I love the idea of using one item and planning your decor around it. For me its our white Bertoia diamond chair and the green/blue Anthropologie pillow that sits on it. Unfortunately it didn't really work with that image because of the wall and carpet colors - came back with a bunch of icky browns...that was a bad example, but you get the idea.

The Ch(K)ristas

Krista, Christa, & Me

What has your blog done for you lately? Mine introduced me to the lovely Krista (far left) who I got to meet face to face while I was in Seattle visiting my friend Christa (middle). As the Internet grows bigger the world seems smaller and smaller and connections like these seem to happen more and more. Krista found me through Design*Sponge and somehow put it together that I knew Christa. I think she emailed me the week before I went to Seattle, and then I just happened to be there when she was having an engagement party - Christa is in Krista's upcoming wedding and invited me along to the party...

Both of these girls are creative and talented - I think that's what I've learned most from blogging - just how many creative people there are in the world and how each person has their own talents, etc...Christa is in marketing, currently for a cutting edge nail salon, and has great style. Krista is a writer and jewelry maker (check our her etsy shop - www.kristafayeknowslove.etsy.com). For her bridesmaids she found each one a unique dress, all on ebay - isn't that cool? Christa showed me hers and it was perfectly Christa and very beautiful.

My time in Seattle was short, and I was feeling under the weather while I was there, but this made it all worth it. Thanks girls : )

Like Daughter like Mother

So, my mom called me a few weeks ago and says, "I think I'll start a blog." And I'm like, "mom that's awesome!".

I think what got her started was the mother-daughter blogging duo nice-etc and merci notes. These cool ladies hail from Chicago and once my mom saw that other ladies (ahem) her age were doing it she realized she could do it too. She makes so many amazing things and I think this blog will be a great outlet for creative expression and sharing with others who appreciate the craft of sewing. She even found a cute name, of course. Make sure you click on over soon to:

So far the conference I'm at is going fine. It just started and I actually ditched out on the first session to check email and post here...don't think they'll miss me down there : ) I photographed a really cute family and a gorgeous newly engaged couple over the weekend so I'm hoping to show you those soon.
